You’ve Just Enrolled! Now What?

Congratulations! You took the first step toward becoming a home inspector, and with AHIT, you’re in good hands. Here’s what to expect next.

Online Students

  1. Log In to Your Account

    Log in using the following link and the account information you created when you purchased your course: https://ahit.leaponline.com/login

  2. Access Your Course Textbook

    From the My Account page, click Open Ebook > for A Practical Guide to Home Inspection, 4th Edition. This is your course textbook. Before beginning the online course, read Chapter 1, “The Structural Inspection.” Click the left-hand menu to take notes, highlight, search, and use other tools like flashcards. Keep two browser tabs open to easily flip between your ebook and the online course.

  3. Access the Course

    From the My Account page, click Open Course > for the Professional Home Inspection Online Course. Read each chapter before completing the corresponding online lesson.

  4. View Your Course Materials

    Under the Course Materials section on the course home page, you will find the AHIT Classroom Practice Report and, if applicable, your state specific standards of practice (SOP). Be sure to refer to your Practice Report and SOP frequently to understand how the course materials apply to an actual home inspection report.

  5. Pass Your Final Course Exam

    Once you have completed all coursework in the AHIT textbook and online, proceed to the final exam. You will have two attempts, so study carefully. Once you have passed the course exam, you will be able to print your certificate directly from your account.

  6. Practice Inspecting

    Make copies of the Practice Report to use while inspecting your own home, your neighbor’s home, and any other home you have access to. This activity will help you become proficient at filling out the inspection report.

  7. Prepare for the Licensing Exam with Exam Prep Edge

    If you will be performing home inspections in a state that requires licensing, you will most likely have to pass a state exam as part of the licensing process. Click Open Course > for Home Inspector Exam Prep Edge. Along with course textbooks, this tool will help you to prepare for your state exam, if required.

Preparing for Live Class

  1. Prepare for Class

    As soon as you enroll, you should begin studying your online course materials. Follow the steps listed for “Online Students” above.

  2. Attend Class

    Our team will reach out to you in the weeks before your class starts. At that time, you will be required to confirm your plans to attend. Site address, Zoom link, and/or field training locations will be sent to you one week before class begins. The more textbook reading and online training you complete prior to class, the more likely you are to pass the course. Be prepared to learn – bring note-taking materials, get lots of sleep, and plan for an active day!

  3. Final Exam – Online Course

    Once you have completed all coursework in the AHIT textbook and online, proceed to the final exam. You will have two attempts, so study carefully. Once you have passed the exam, you will be able to print your certificate directly from your account. If your state requires live-only training, this can be treated as a practice test.

  4. Final Exam – Live Course

    Once you have completed all required hours, you will be provided with an access code to unlock the final exam(s). You will have two attempts (per exam), so study carefully. Once you have passed the exam(s), you will be able to print your certificate(s) directly from your LEAP account. Some states require additional documents or inspection reports to be turned in before the certificate can be issued. Your instructor will provide you with details.
